British Lung Basis: smoking in cars "could lead to meningitis" in kids

The Commons will vote on whether to give the well being secretary the power to impose a ban on smoking in vehicles, despite the opposition of some MPs like members of the Cabinet.

Steven Wibberley from the British Lung Foundation explained the overall health implications of smoking in automobiles.

“Simply because it truly is an enclosed environment, it concentrates the smoke and the toxins in that smoke and due to the fact children have got modest underdeveloped lungs, that has a true impact on their overall health.”

“It leads to factors like asthma, chest infections, ear infections, but also even factors like meningitis.”

Downing Street has confirmed that Prime Minister would miss the vote, as he is staying in the South West overnight to pay a visit to locations impacted by flooding, but indicated that he believes “the time has come” for a ban on smoking in vehicles containing young children.
