Papworth hospital to move to Cambridge University campus

The potential of Papworth hospital, the renowned centre of healthcare advances, has been secured following the Treasury finally approved its prolonged-planned move to Cambridge.


Underneath Treasury programs, Papworth had been dealing with a move to Peterborough to support prop up the reduction-making regional hospital.


But following sustained lobbying by MPs, medical doctors, senior NHS figures and Cambridge University, ministers have endorsed the company case for Papworth moving to the new Cambridge Biomedical Campus of medico-scientific analysis.


An independent clinical review located the case for Papworth moving to Cambridge to be compelling and that there would be “minimal patient and clinical positive aspects” to it getting in Peterborough, where it would have taken above the unused fourth floor of Peterborough City Hospital.


The chancellor, George Osborne, said final week that there was a “really strong case” for Papworth getting to be component of the campus, which will ultimately utilize 30,000 men and women, to “produce a hub of top-edge medication, investigation and pharmaceutical development” .


A economic assessment of that program by Keep track of, the NHS financial regulator, concluded that it was cost-effective, regardless of the planned new Papworth hospital currently being portion-funded via one more PFI deal.


Prof Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, the vice-chancellor of Cambridge University, welcomed the “very good news for patients, good information for analysis and great news for United kingdom PLC” and praised Papworth’s pioneering position in heart and lung transplants.
