Recipes for cancer sufferers: meals that feeds both entire body and soul


‘To eat is to dwell.” As Michel Roux Snr, who has suffered and recovered from cancer, describes it, foods not only nourishes us physically, but lifts the spirits, “making us feel far more human”.




By no means are these things a lot more powerfully felt than by individuals undergoing treatment for cancer, or in the challenging days of recovery. But as anybody who has been affected by the illness will know, the appetite fluctuates, the senses are altered, and the pleasure of eating – along with important nutrients – can fall away.




Today, we publish recipes from an inspiring new book, Recipes for Life, by Peter Marshall (himself in recovery from cancer), which has brought with each other a group of leading chefs, every of whom has been touched by the sickness. Functioning with the healthcare team at Leaders in Oncology Care in London, they have designed recipes to provide optimum nutrition for this situation, but which will feed the soul as well. Mark Jordan, a single contributor, says: “With cancer, even just talking about what you’re going to eat adjustments the topic to anything really good.”
