Set Yourself Up for Success

Take baby step when you just starting to totally transform your life and start living healthily. You can start by simply incorporating salad and greens into your diet once a day or a few times a week then.  You can also start prepping your own meals since home cooked meals are far better than buying from fast food chains and takeouts.  Reading labels are another way of stepping your game up for a successful healthy lifestyle. By simply being aware of what is in your food you have an idea if it is junk or not or if it contains more sugar than what you really need on a daily serving.

Eat Less Saturated and Reduce Sugar

Sugar is the number one cause for diseases and illnesses according to nutrition inspectors and health experts. High sugar in the blood stream can lead to diabetes, increases suicidal thoughts and even increases depression. To avoid this, you should start by having less or no intake of sugary drinks like sodas, fruit juices that aren’t natural or organic made. Also do avoid having saturated fats in your meals.

Eat Lots of Colorful Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain all the nutrition that your body needs. It is packed with minerals, vitamins, fiber and even antioxidants to help avoid cancer. Having about 5 servings of fruits and veggies everyday is not just healthy but it is also enough to cut back and finally let go of your unhealthy eating habits. Simply eat a serving or fruits for snacks instead of munching on cookies or junk food. Moreover, add more greens in your diet means adding more protein especially in the absence of meat.

Bulk Up on Fiber

Fiber is essential to help clean your colon and have better digestion. You ned about 21 to38 grams of fiber everyday to achieve optimum health according to nutrition inspectors or experts. You can get more fiber in unprocessed food and mostly in grains like wheat, cereal, barleys, beans and even fruits.

Eat Healthy Beans, Pulses, Fishes, Eggs, Meat and Other Proteins

The above mentioned are good sources for protein which is needed for body growth and repair. Meats, fishes, beans, eggs and other protein sources also have high minerals, iron, vitamins and zinc. But it is important to remove fat and as much as possible cook the meat thoroughly to avoid salmonella and other digestive problems.

Enjoy Healthy Fats

Healthy fats are also called unsaturated fats where it contains omega-3 which is good for the heart. Some of the healthy fat sources are avocados, nuts, sesame and pumpkin seeds, fatty fishes like anchovies, mackerel, herring, salmon, some walnuts and flaxseeds too.

Milk and Dairy Foods: Go for Lower-Fat Varieties

Milk along with yogurt and cheese contain high amount of calcium which is good for your bones. Dairy products are good for the body but sometimes they contain full fat. Instead, choose the healthier options like low-fat milk, skimmed milk, almond milk as well as cottage cheese for and low-fat yogurts.

Watch Your Salt Intake

While salt can greatly improve the taste of the food, you should watch out for your intake of sodium. High sodium intake can lead to water retention and also kidney diseases. So instead of adding more salt to your food, why not try adding more herbs and spices to make the dish more flavorful.
