Hunt: Desperate need to have for investment in dementia research

There is a “desperate require” for more investment in dementia analysis, the Wellness Secretary has explained.

The financial and social motives to find a cure, or condition-modifying treatment, can’t be ignored, Jeremy Hunt said.

Speaking to far more than 300 health and finance experts gathered in London to talk about the burden of dementia about the world, Mr Hunt explained a lot more have to be accomplished to dispel the myth that dementia is an “inevitable” component of ageing.

“This is a issue that we can defeat and that is what we chose to do at the G8 summit in December,” Mr Hunt stated.

“In December we set ourselves some really ambitious targets and nowadays we are right here to find concrete approaches in how we provide people, which includes how we find a cure or condition-modifying therapy by 2025, how we motivate investment in dementia study and how we attempt new sources of finance to assistance global dementia innovation.

“The Uk Government is undertaking what we can. Because 2009 we have increased investment in dementia research from £28 million to £52 million and we are on target to enhance analysis spending to £66 million by 2015.

“But globally we desperately need to have to see new investment flowing into dementia study.”
