If you have ever seen a barista put together any espresso beverage, you’re not alone in feeling like they have done the work of magic. It looks like a complicated process, but chances are that you’ve wondered if you could make this same beverage in the comfort of your own home. This thought often comes when you realize just how much money you have spent on the beverage. Sure it tastes amazing, but with it comes unnecessary waste from the lid, cup, and even the sleeve used to protect your hands from the temperature of the drink.
So back to your question, can this be made in your own home? Most certainly—a homemade organic latte takes just a few steps and you don’t even need an elaborate setup!
Ingredients:
- Organic coffee or espresso
- Organic Milk
- Optional: Natural sweetener
- Optional: Ceylon cinnamon
Instructions:
- Brew a batch of coffee, double strong. If you are working with a machine for homemade espresso, this latte would need 1 or 2 shots of espresso.
- While the coffee or espresso is brewing, heat up 1 to 1.5 cups of organic milk with a saucepan. Skim or 1% milk will work, but using 2% milk will make for a creamier and richer latte. If going lactose-free, organic soy, almond, rice, or hemp milk will also work.
- While heating the milk the in saucepan, use a whisk to whip the milk until it is frothy. This will take some muscle, and if you’re not up for it, you can use a food processor or blender.
- Pour the espresso or coffee into the mug of your choosing. You should be mindful to leave a bit of room to add the milk and foam. After the coffee or espresso has been poured, drizzle the milk into the mug. Remember that you need to help hold the froth of the milk back with a spoon. Once you have poured the milk, layer the froth over the top of the beverage.
- If choosing to sweeten your beverage, add your choice of organic sweetener now. This could be sugar, honey, or even vanilla extract. Sprinkle a small bit of cinnamon over the top to add just a hint of spice—perfect for the fall months.
How to Make it Iced:
Making your favorite hot beverage iced will keep your craving satisfied through all four seasons. To make an organic iced latte, the instructions are similar to those above, except with just a few changes to make it work:
- Brew your coffee or espresso in enough time to let it cool. Putting it in the refrigerator will speed up the process if you just cannot wait.
- Create foam with the cold milk. This can be done with a hand operated mixer.
- Once the milk is frothed, pour it into the coffee or espresso and then pour this mixture over ice.
- Pour the foam over the entire drink.
That’s it—a perfect cup of organic late! Enjoy as-is or use vanilla extract or sugar to sweeten to your taste.
