Annie Souter taught new social workers how to assess kids and families at threat




Our significantly-loved and devoted colleague, Annie Souter, who has died of cancer aged 61, was a pioneering social worker in little one wellness. She brought hospital social function proper into the heart of the paediatric group at the Whittington hospital, London, working closely with us in youngster protection and adolescent self-harm circumstances.


An unsentimental champion of youngsters in require, she stood up to jobsworths each time they obstructed the main aim. Annie was born and brought up in Scotland. Soon after a quick spell in London in the 1960s, she returned property to carry up her youngsters on a remote farm, then trained in social operate in Dundee. She enriched our expert days with each a disciplined seriousness of goal and a deliciously irreverent sense of humour.


She is survived by her husband, David, daughter, Victoria (also a social worker), son, James, and two grandchildren.
