Right after Tiller is a sobering account of these couple of doctors in the US who, given that the murder of Dr George Tiller in 2009, are capable to provide late-phrase abortions. The procedures are legal, characterised by medical need to have, and require distinct knowledge, but are, of course, aggressively targeted by pro-existence campaigners, who harass medical doctors and firebomb premises. Their pursuits are America’s every day terrorism. It really is a grim story. Typically, US media talk about the abortion “debate” – but there is no debate, far more like a cold-war style faceoff between folks diametrically opposed to each other. However, it is the pro-lifers who can mobilise the bully squads, deploy the 24-hour a passive-aggressive pickets and evidently get in touch with on people far more than prepared to carry out acts of righteous violence. Liberals cannot muster that variety of firepower, and my fret about Following Tiller is that it seems to offer the pro-option side no debating or campaigning strategy. Anyway: a sombre study. PB
