MPs urged to measure their waistlines in weight problems drive


Waistlines of MPs are to come beneath near scrutiny as a peer and former surgeon asks them to carry out easy checks to see if they are obese.




Every single MP and Lord will get a letter asking them to measure their waist and height beneath ideas by Lord McColl of Dulwich, who is also a surgeon with 50 many years experience in the NHS, in a bid to fight the weight problems crisis.




If the waist measurement is more than twice their height, they have an obesity dilemma which will need to have to be tackled, he will say in his letter. MPs willbe invited to acquire medical advice.




Earl Howe, the Health Minister, stated parliamentarians should welcome “any measure which encourages us to boost our diet and minimize bodily inactivity.




Lord McColl mentioned he hoped the members of the two homes would report their measurements back so that he could have some notion how unhealthy parliamentarians are.




He mentioned that there have been rather too many portly bellies witnessed about the halls of Westminster and that measuring their waistline and towards their height was a basic way to examine no matter whether they were a healthier size.


He informed the Every day Telegraph: “At the finish of the day you can not be obese unless of course you are eating also considerably – and it appears undesirable if MPs are telling people what to do and are obese themselves.


“It is an important situation and we notice really a bit of weight problems in the ranks and, they are eating too considerably of the gross nationwide product.”
